This week on the Raised Catholic podcast, I’ll tell a few stories of walking with and a little ahead, life-wise, with the people around me. And I’ll tell the story of my first adult spiritual epiphany, when at age 20 I learned in the woods of Weston, Vermont that this kind of accompaniment is how God walks with us, too.
Past, present and future - God exists in every part of our lives, and so He knows the whole story from the start in ways we never could. All of the lessons and interactions that really made/will make a difference, each one of the forks in the road, the providential doors of opportunity that did/will change everything. Every peal of laughter and every tear there ever was or will be, every challenge we have or will overcome - God is already with us in it.
I believe that one day we’ll learn that the days we now think are the defining markers: the birthdays, graduations and such will be the smallest part of what forms us in the end. In the details is where our lives are lived. And I love knowing that God knows the whole thing already as we live out this epic journey of moments in the context of His big, all-knowing, merciful heart.
Because He is with us, and also ahead on the road, thanks be to God.

Kerry, as always, I enjoy your podcasts. This morning, I was out on a path walking my daughter's dog and your title was most appropriate. Her Lab puppy was either behind, with or ahead of me......and mostly with a stick in his mouth which when coming up from behind, is often a surprise! Your point about God being in all those positions relative to our walk in life resonated especially well. I will keep reminding myself where He is and that He is always near me. Enjoy this beautiful breath of summer! Melina
