Spiritual Parents, Spiritual Children
Who are you speaking into these days, and who is speaking into you?
This week on the Raised Catholic podcast, we’re taking a look at faith families, mentorship and discipleship. Though human-to-human teaching, encouragement, and care was an integral part of Christian evangelization from the start, it’s something most of the Church has left behind. After all, how many pastors do you know who are truly ‘pastoral’ in their approach and in how they operate these days? Still, God is good, and if we look, we can identify the people who are speaking into us and the people that God calls us to speak into.
In this week’s episode, I mention some of the dear people who’ve been spiritual parents or spiritual big sisters and brothers to me, and honestly, I don’t know where I’d be without them. I haven’t had a regular pastoral voice in my life for many years now, and I feel the lack in my life as you may feel it in yours. We all need someone to tell us the truth about who and Whose we are from time to time, no matter our age or experience, and God has sent people who will do just that for us, thanks be to Him.
So let’s look for the spiritual parents and sisters and brothers and children that God is illuminating for us in this time, and when we find them, let’s thank them and thank God for them. When it comes to our walk of faith, we were just never meant to do this alone.
