Retreat Takeaways: Trees, Dancing & Anchors
How to pay attention to the symbols that come up in your own life
Hi friends. In this week’s episode of the Raised Catholic podcast, I continue to unpack some takeaways from a recent retreat experience. During my weekend away, there were certain words and symbols that kept popping up, and when that happens, I have learned to pay attention to what the Holy Spirit is trying to show me. In this episode, I’ll be reflecting on some of those symbols as I process through that experience - trees, dancing and anchors - and next week I’ll finish up with a reflection on bells, time, and open hands.
If you’ve never prayed while contemplating the symbols that come up on repeat in your own life, I hope this episode gives you permission to start, because God will use any means to get close to us, his beloved. He became an actual human to draw near, he makes himself small enough to fit into a piece of bread to be a part of us, he speaks to us in words and songs. Why would an all-powerful God leave the things we meet in our everyday lives on the table as a means to reach us? Answer: he wouldn’t.
Listen to Raised Catholic episode 154: Retreat Takeaways: Trees, Dancing & Anchors on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts (or read the transcript) and then let’s meet back here to talk through the symbols that are coming up in your own life. What could they mean? What is God trying to say through them? I hope this episode gives a little inspiration and direction to your own exploration with God who is crazy about you and meets you where you are, as you are. As we find God in every part of our day, our lives can become a kind of adventure in which we are never walking alone. We can live life rooted in Him who loves us more than we can know. And how wonderful is that.
I love those little "God moments" - when God keeps nudging you with a symbol or message. This past week I've twice heard a reference to the MLK quote "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice" from a Christian source and a Jewish one. Sitting with that one this week!
