This week on the Raised Catholic podcast, we’re bringing back an older episode, The Spiritual Practice of Mothering. In the episode, we talk about all of the kinds of people who are out there mothering in lots of different ways, and if you are one of those people, I hope that you feel celebrated and honored for keeping the world spinning as only mothers do.
Motherhood is not a science, but an art. Not one of us knows what we’re doing as we do it, but we’re learning as we go, alongside our children. Sometimes a mother’s most well intentioned actions don’t work out as we hope, but thankfully, the inverse is also true. The road of motherhood for me, with my own Mom and with those who have mothered and mentored me along the way, and in my experience with my own kids, my students, and those whose lives I get to speak into from time to time, is both imperfect and sacred, all at once. Motherhood is a growing and a becoming, and it can be full of grace, thanks be to God, and what a privilege to be a part of something so big and so intimate, something so very close to the heart of God.
