Hi friends. As I explained a couple of weeks back, we’re into a new series on the Raised Catholic podcast all about discerning, understanding, and owning our belief system for ourselves as we take our beliefs out for air and line them up with what Jesus actually said and taught along with our own prayer and contemplation. What our Protestant friends often call ‘faith deconstruction’ is not something with which we Catholics are too familiar, but understanding and owning our faith for ourselves is something that every mature Christian should do.
Last week, we talked about voting and political engagement from a grown-up Catholic perspective and this week it’s all about leadership. As we consider both the leaders we follow and the leaders we want to be, we can look to the example of Jesus and other Christian leaders and the attributes they exemplify and embody. Let’s take a moment here to consider a leader we admire. Go ahead, I’ll be here when you get back. :)
(consider here)
Okay, are you thinking of someone? Good. I wonder if this person displays some or all of the following:
character, integrity and ethics
self-sacrificial servant leadership
empathy and compassion
vision (as in, they know their goals and where they’re headed)
humility
active and evident prayer life (as in, they take time away to listen to God in order to be guided and healthy in their work/ministry), and
puts the needs of the flock first, before themselves
And I guess I’m wondering, friend, how does the leader you’re thinking of line up with these ways that Jesus and some of His friends led and lead us today? And how can we become leaders like that in all of the circles in which we find ourselves?
Listen to Raised Catholic episode 194: Grown-Up Catholicism: Leadership on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts (or read the transcript) and then meet me back here in the comments to tell me a story of a leader you know who reminds you of the way Jesus led. You know I’d love to see you there!
