Body of Christ
We have differing beliefs, strengths, talents, experiences, and interests, and that is good news for us all.
This week on the Raised Catholic podcast, we’re revisiting an older episode called Sandwich Theology in which I mused on the importance of balance in something small and unimportant like a sandwich, or something large and critical like the Body of Christ. We’re each made so differently, and thank God for it.
I had a medical procedure recently and while I was waiting for it to begin, I found myself so incredibly grateful for all of the nurses, doctors and staff who were taking such good care of me. Unlike me, they all had an interest in science, and in pursuing medicine as a career. In high school, they were maybe most excited for lab days in chemistry or biology while I was most engaged with finding the symbolism in a novel in English class or in making harmony in choir. It takes all kinds and we need all kinds to make this world spin, and how beautiful it is that that’s precisely how we’re made.
Listen to Body of Christ at the Raised Catholic podcast on Apple podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts (or read the transcript) and then let’s meet back here to talk about how the different people around you are teaching you something new, or filling a need you have today. (I’ll start.) When we recognize our dependence on each other as a garden or a Body, we start to get an inkling as to the beautiful design God planned for us from the start.
